DO NOT MOVE THE FIRE PIT

• PURChase wood

You can purchase wood and kindling for the fire pit at The Manzanita Grocery or Manzanita Fresh Foods. The firewood provided at the house is for the indoor wood stove only. Please don’t use this wood for the fire pit or take it to the beach. It is custom cut to size for our wood stove. If there is wood in the deck box next to the fire pit, feel free to use this wood.

• REMOVE COVER & LID

Take off the weather proof cover and the metal lid and set aside.

• get spark screen & tools

Inside the deck box you’ll find a 2-piece spark screen along with the 2-piece removal tools. There is also a metal poker and a log grabber tool. See the video on this page to see how the spark screen works.

• LIGHT THE FIRE

Be prepared to know how long you want a fire. You should stop adding logs about an hour before you are done with the fire pit. Start small with kindling and any smaller logs. Let them catch before adding more logs. Add the spark screen - you can take off the top screen periodically to add more wood.

• WHEN YOU ARE done WITH THE FIRE PIT

Do not leave the fire pit until the fire is extinguished. Spread the remaining logs and coals out and wait until there are no more flames and the coals are losing their red glow. At this time you can remove the spark screen and set aside (do not put the spark screen in the deck box as it’ll be hot and melt the box.) Put the stainless steel lid on the top. If it is really windy make sure the lid is on properly. Do not put the weather proof cover on the fire pit while it is still hot.

Please make sure the tools and spark screen are put back in the deck box before you check out and please cover the fire pit with the weather proof cover. If you have extra leftover wood, feel free to leave it in the deck box.

• ASH REMOVAL

Occasionally the ash will build up in the bottom of the fire pit and it’ll need to be removed. When the fire pit is cool and there are no coals you can pull the bottom of the inside floor out with the ash inside. Please dispose of it in the ash can, which is in the deck box or off the the side of the patio. Make sure the ash can lid is back on tight and put the floor back in the fire pit. Never put ash in the trash can.
